Energy Sector

  • Africa has the world’s lowest per capita energy consumption – with 16% of the world’s population, it consumes about 3.3% of the global primary energy.
  • Oil forms the largest part of the continent’s total energy consumption (42%), followed by gas (28%), coal (22%), hydro (6%), renewable energy (1%) and nuclear (1%).
  • To achieve universal access to energy continue to be a challenge as Africa’s massive shortfall in energy and fuel supply is only expected to get worse as the population grows and climate change drives transition to new energy sources , unless investment and better management can be guaranteed. For example, power cuts (or load shedding) and inefficient fuel supply chains have become commonplace in several countries in southern Africa in recent years. Populations in some countries, have resorted to traditional sources of wood and charcoal for cooking purposes. Industrial parks, large scale agricultural farms and mining companies, in some countries, no longer steam throughout the day, as companies have been ordered to cut power consumption.

Our focus shall be on international and regional collaboration, championing clean technology adoption, energy management, emphasis on energy efficiency improvements and intelligent power solutions for the energy transition mostly for industrial users.
